Two AI app stores, counted from the platforms’ own endpoints: ChatGPT’s country-shaped directory and Claude’s connector directory, snapshotted and diffed daily. Companion to the MCP Apps census.
ChatGPT apps by country
Apps visible to an anonymous visitor from each country’s IP, top 15 shown. The union across all 26 is 2,111; the widest single view (US) sees 93% of it. Geography is a thin layer — the bigger gap to authenticated trackers is login-gated.
Directory growth
Cumulative apps by the month they entered each directory. Claude uses first-party added_at — a genuine spread. ChatGPT’s dates are directory-migration stamps (OpenAI’s July 9, 2026 Plugin-directory migration restamped records), so they read as a June step, not a launch curve. Claude daily totals since 2026-08-03: 08-05 → 135 · 08-06 → 138 · 08-07 → 144 · 08-08 → 162 · 08-09 → 162.

Hotels in the app stores
Hotels are, so far, a ChatGPT phenomenon: 32 hotel apps in ChatGPT’s directory against 3 on Claude. The major chains have nearly all shipped a ChatGPT app and gone direct — and underneath them sits a visible direct-booking layer (7 tools whose whole pitch is keeping the booking off the OTAs), which is the part worth watching if you sell hotel distribution.

Method
Snapshots come from Claude’s public directory API once a day; every snapshot is retained, and the day-over-day diff (additions, removals, rank and popularity movers) is computed and stored. Adoption signals are the platform’s own published numbers with undocumented units. A directory listing is an observation about the catalog, not a quality judgment. ChatGPT’s side joins once per-country daily vantages are in place — its catalog is country-shaped.
